Cheri Harbour, MS, OTR/L, SCLV
earned her bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy from The University of
Alabama-Birmingham in 1990. After several years practicing as a generalist OT,
Cheri’s grandmother developed complications related to macular degeneration.
This personal experience prompted Cheri to pursue further education and
training in the field of Low Vision Rehabilitation. She returned to UAB and
completed her Graduate Certificate in Low Vision Rehabilitation in 2010 and
continued at UAB earning her master’s degree in OT in 2012. In 2014, Cheri
earned her Specialty Certification in Low Vision Rehabilitation from the
American Occupational Therapy Association, an accomplishment achieved by less
than 1 percent of OTs nationwide. She currently provides Low Vision Rehabilitation
at the North Mississippi Medical Center Retina Center. She has spoken at
several conferences and provides guest lectures for the OTA program at Itawamba
Community College in Tupelo. Her Master’s level research was published in the
journal of Occupational Therapy in Healthcare in 2014. Her work has also been
featured in the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal, North Mississippi Hospital
Association publication and other local media. She serves on the State OT
Advisory Council for the Mississippi Board of Health and has been a board
member of MAER since 2018.
