No matter your role within your
office, leadership is in some way part of what you do. To achieve the goal of access
and inclusion for disabled people in higher education, we must motivate and
mobilize ourselves, our teams, and our entire campus communities to envision
and pursue seamless access in which disability is valued as an aspect of
diversity and access is a matter of social justice. All staff in the office can
and should be involved in contributing to the growth and development of the
office, students, and the institution’s culture toward disability. Therefore, strengthening
the leadership aspect of our knowledge and skill set is essential to everyone
in this field.
With that belief, AHEAD is excited
to announce another webinar series designed to foster leadership skills in all
disability resource staff. Whether you are a new service professional, a
director, or preparing yourself to move into a new position, we believe you will
find value in the opportunity to think strategically about leadership and
explore resources and relationships that will support your personal and
professional skills as a leader. Even if you have attended one of the previous
four-part leadership webinar series sessions, this six-part series contains new
information.
About this Webinar Series
This six session webinar series is
designed for you to choose the content most relevant to your professional and
office needs. Even if you have attended one of the previous Leadership Webinar Series, sessions 3, 4, 5, and 6 of this six-part series will contain new information, and can be registered for separately, so please join us to brush up on new skills and reconnect with colleagues!
Sessions 1, 2 and 3 will be in a
presentation and discussion format. Enjie Hall and Adam Meyer will present on
the respective topic for approximately 45 – 50 minutes. Attendees will then be
placed into small groups of 4 – 6 disability resource professionals to discuss
a set of questions for 25 – 30 minutes.
Sessions 4, 5 and 6 will utilize and
panel and discussion format. A panel of disability resource providers will
speak to the corresponding topic for approximately 45 minutes. Attendees will
then continue discussion in smaller groups facilitated by a panelist for
approximately 30 minutes.
Feedback from the previous
leadership webinar series indicated great appreciation for the chance to
connect with colleagues around the country in the smaller group format.
Individuals participating in these sessions should come prepare to discuss the
day’s topic to build one’s leadership toolbox.
Due to the interactive nature of the
sessions, participants are strongly encouraged to attend live at the scheduled
meeting times, and to separate themselves from their daily work during this
time. The lectures and panel presentations in the first half of each session
will be recorded if a participant must miss one session, but the interactive
discussion portions will not be recorded.
These webinars will be hosted in Zoom and include captioning. Complete instructions for participating and presentation materials will be sent via email prior to each webinar. Please contact Elisa Laird with any questions or to request additional disability accommodations for the webinar. Two weeks advance notice is needed to schedule ASL interpreters.
Please note: Only registered users may attend the live webinar. However, a link to the webinar recording will be emailed to the registered user after the event. If you have questions, please contact Elisa Laird. This recording link may be shared with campus colleagues.
