Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy (AAC) has served the ASM and the microbiology community in multiple ways since its inception. During this time, the journal has evolved to address the major developments in the pharmaceutical industry as well as the devaluation of novel resistance mechanisms. The editorial vision that has firmly established AAC as the premier journal in drug development and resistance has required significant insight into the science evolving in our field. Each of these editors will reflect upon how strategic decisions were made regarding the mission of the journal. A key element is also the construction of the editorial board. The editors have a significant impact on the decision to recruit talent to this field.
