Overview

Join us for an informative session that will provide you with many resources to help get team buy-in for AAC. This session provides resources and materials you can use to help everyone on your team understand the importance of AAC. Begin building your library of materials to help educate and advocate for AAC with us.

Learning Objectives

  1. Show three resources that can be used to educate team members on AAC implementation.
  2. Summarize three common barriers or excuses used by other professionals or people when trying to implement AAC.
  3. Develop a bank of resources, containing at least three materials and strategies, that can be used to support discussions revolving around AAC in the SLP’s work setting.

Biography

Cortney Maholtz is an ASHA-certified speech-language pathologist. Cortney has been an SLP for 14 years working in a variety of settings including rehabilitation, schools, and private practice. Cortney’s passion is AAC and at PRC-Saltillo she enjoys getting to help others on their AAC journey as a training and implementation specialist.

Heather Prenovost, MS, CCC-SLP

Biography

Heather has been a speech-language pathologist for 20 years, with 17 years working in the schools, and 6 of those years as an AAC support person for a large school district. She was a regional AAC Consultant for PRC-Saltillo for 4 years in MN and is currently a Training and Implementation Specialist for PRC-Saltillo. Heather has presented locally and nationally on language, literacy, and AAC, with an emphasis on the adolescent and young adult population.
