Overview

Sharing is everything right? Wouldn't it be nice if a group of people could just sit down and share different apps that can be used on iOS, Android or Chrome? If you answered 'yes,' then this session is for you! Join us for this year's edition of the App Smackdown. In this session, participants will share with each other different apps that can be used with and/or by individuals with disabilities. This is a session for practitioners led by practitioners. Please no vendors! Come join us for a fast-paced and exciting experience for sharing your knowledge and learning with others. Bring your devices with you to share because this session is all about YOU!! The hour flies by so come ready to learn. The facilitators will compile a list of shared tools for future reference.

Assistive Technology Partnership, NE ATP Education Program Supervisor

Biography

Brian Wojcik currently works as the Education Program Supervisor for the Nebraska Assistive Technology Partnership within the Nebraska Department of Education. He has worked previously as Special Education Faculty at the University of Nebraska at Kearney and as the Coordinator of the Special Education Assistive Technology (SEAT) Center at Illinois State University. As an educator, Brian has been integrating technology to meet the needs of students with diverse learning needs for well over three decades. In his current position, Brian works to help educators build capacity for delivering quality AT services within Nebraska.

Biography

Karen Janowski, MS Ed, is an Inclusive and Assistive Technology Consultant and is President and owner of EdTech Solutions, Inc in Reading, MA which provides comprehensive AAC and AT Services in the Greater Boston area. Karen presents both locally and nationally on innovative technologies to reach all learners. She is an EdCamp Boston and EdCampAccess organizer, co-moderates #ATchat on Twitter and maintains a blog at http://teachingeverystudent.blogspot.com. Karen is a co-author of Inclusive Learning 365: EdTech Strategies for Every Day of the Year, scheduled for ISTE publication May 2021.

Elisa Wern

AT & OT Consulting and Coaching, Occupational Therapist and Local Assistive Technology Specialist

Biography

Elisa Wern is an Occupational Therapist, with a Master’s degree in Special Education, and RESNA Certified Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) with over 20 years of experience in pediatric therapy. She presents at a variety of state and national conferences including regional trainings, CEC, PATINS A2E, ATIA, OTAP/ECHO TIES Project, CATE, and AAC in the Cloud. She receives a salary as the Local Assistive Technology Specialist for Alachua County Schools in Gainesville, Florida, where she coordinates AT services for the district, and serves as the Lead Occupational Therapist. In her spare work time she has a private practice, AT & OT Consulting and Coaching, supporting students and families primarily through teletherapy evaluations, consultations, and interventions. Through this practice she receives payment for therapy and assistive technology services as well as honorariums for some presentations. She also volunteers for AT Makers coordinating the Intellikeys Project. She is the co-author of a chapter with Sarah Gregory, in the recently published, Fundamentals of AAC: A Case-Based Approach to Enhancing Communication, for which they receive no compensation. She shares ideas and resources on Twitter @wernedat.
