Overview

Older adults can be supported at home longer and seamlessly by integrating smart sensor and assistive technologies. The presentation provides a perspective of incorporating available technologies to include off-the-shelf products along with using integrated predictive software and smart sensors that create an accurate and responsive environment. While many older adults may not be interested in “technology”, sensor technology senses an event defined by the person (i.e., being out bed during typical sleeping hours for a certain amount of time) and connects natural or paid supports to the person via various technologies in real-time.

Learning Objectives

  1. Identify three functional areas that can be supported by sensor technology.
  2. Describe how two off-the-shelf products can be integrated with sensor technology.
  3. Identify three common expected outcomes with the integration of smart sensor technology and assistive technologies.
