Overview

Artificial Intelligence exploded into the world scene in early 2023. This powerful technological progression is here to stay and will continue to impact many areas of our daily lives, including Assistive Technology. Texthelp’s Chief Product Officer will explain how AI is empowering Texthelp’s products as well as give insight into what the future AI integration plans are for the Texthelp family of products. We will also explore considerations that AT developers, educators and learners should be aware of when looking at Assistive Technology as a support for independent learning and beyond.

Content Disclosure: Texthelp and Don Johston have developed and patented softwares that will be mentioned in this session. Due to the specific nature of how Artificial Intelligence is being engineered into these products, the scope will be kept mainly to these products in the present but possibilities for other areas and products in the future may not be limited to just these products.

Learning Objectives

  1. Describe at least two ways AI is impacting and will likely continue to impact AT in the coming years.
  2. Identify three considerations for making AT decisions in the future when it comes to AI.
  3. Describe two types of AT tools AI is already impacting in a positive way.
