Ableism 101 for CSD
Thursday, September 21, 2023
5:30 P.M. - 7:00 P.M. ET
.15 ASHA CEUs*
*This course qualifies for ASHA's DEI CEUs.
Disability is inherently political yet disabled people are often excluded from conversations that impact them within healthcare, including CSD.
This webinar will introduce participants to the concepts of ableism and anti-ableism within the context of speech-language pathology and audiology (SLPA). Examples and impacts of ableism will be discussed and strategies for integrating anti-ableist practices will be shared. Participants will work through a case study to practice identifying and addressing ableism within the context of SLPA. Participants will then reflect on their own practice experiences, identifying an instance of an ableist practice or policy they have participated in and the harm that this could cause or has caused to clients.
The webinar will conclude with participants generating an action plan for integrating an anti-ableist approach into their own practice, thereby aligning with ASHA's values of culturally responsive care, self-reflection, and action toward eliminating discrimination. This webinar encourages practitioners to consider and integrate these critical approaches into their practice.
