Originally presented at 2021 Annual Conference

Do you ever wish you could change your circumstances? Well, I have a secret to tell …circumstances are neutral. So, the fact that someone did not follow their medication regimen (after you educated them for the 20th time) is neutral. That’s correct. It is neither good nor bad, it is a fact: the person did not follow the regime. Since circumstances are neutral, we won’t dwell on that any longer, but we will bring attention to our thoughts. Our thoughts which produce feelings that elicit action and harbor results. Assessment of our circumstances creates an atmosphere to allow ourselves to implement new thoughts that drive desired actions. Utilization of this tool can be used both personally and with the client to maximize positive client care outcomes as emphasized in the CMSA Outcomes Standard of Care which highlights the importance of engagement and self-management abilities. Studies have shown that thinking about positive outcomes reduced the cost of worry outcomes and increased perceived ability to cope with them.

This method of recognizing thoughts is vital to positive outcomes and is teachable to others who are open to this way of ‘thinking’ (pun intended). In the midst of uncertainty or lack of ‘normalcy’ as some may call it, attendees will become equipped with this mind hack that they can use in any situation to change the trajectory of the results they hope to obtain. During this session we navigate through real thoughts from the audience during a role-playing exercise which highlights how we can change thoughts to affect results. Personal and case management workplace examples will be highlighted to allow attendees to work through this thought changing process themselves allowing them to be equipped to integrate this tool quickly into practice.

After this session attendees will walk away with a renewed mind and the ability to recognize their inner magic. It will provide a platform for successful outcomes within personal life and professional roles. Recognizing the true magic in our minds allows us to fully embrace the CMSA standard of facilitation, coordination, and collaboration to achieve target goals.

OBJECTIVES:
