JUNE 27, 2024
3:00 PM - 4:30 PM EASTERN
Virtual Cost of Poverty Experience (COPE) is an interactive virtual simulation that helps participants better understand the lived realities of poverty and SDOH, learn from people making the journey out of poverty, and become a change-maker in their organization. Participants will make difficult decisions, work together to try and complete their tasks for one simulated week through mall breakout rooms to discuss and debrief with colleagues. This session will deepen the understanding of social determinants of health impacting healthcare delivery and outcomes while highlighting the importance of learning from communities that are most affected by inequities in health and social conditions and fostering community discussions that can lead to change and new ways of thinking. This interactive ninety (90) minute experience combines trivia, simulation, and group discussion and debriefing.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
  1. Role-play one week in the life of someone navigating poverty, including identifying and evaluating trade-off decisions to recognize the physical and emotional health and relational impacts of poverty on individuals and families.
  2. Identify principles & actions that can lead to more effective partnerships between families being served and case managers.
  3. Describe the intersection between poverty and health outcomes.
  4. Apply actions that foster trust and reduce the negative impact of bias in the system to combat health inequities.
