Universal Design

Universal design is a concept that should influence the various design decisions you and/or your clients make. In addition to providing more accessible housing to the public, universal-design features allow people to remain in homes longer as they adjust to the needs that accompany aging or other life changes. According to Roberta Null, “Universal design asks that designers create spaces and products that adapt to people as individuals and that strengthen their sense of themselves as capable and independent human beings. Adaptability is a key element of universal design.”
