A trauma-informed model of care emphasizes the need for staff and organizations to recognize the prevalence and pervasive impact of trauma on the lives of the people they serve and develop trauma-sensitive and trauma-responsive services. Physical, emotional, and environmental safety are the keys to trauma-informed practice because many trauma survivors feel unsafe, may have experienced abuse of power, and may currently be in unsafe relationships or living situations.
