Osseointegration refers to the direct structural and functional connection between living bone and the surface of a load-carrying implant. The indication for osseointegration therapy has been greatly expanded in recent years. However, also the number of failures have increased and seem to be intimately linked to the biology of the host bed. The present symposium will focus on the essential ultrastructural biological mechanisms governing the implant-bone healing.
