Around the Circuits in 80 Days: An Ethical Tour of Bankruptcy Court (7th Circuit)

seventh circuit

As a court-appointed representative, bankruptcy trustees have a responsibility to perform the duties required to administer a bankruptcy case - whether Chapter 7 or 13. This role includes reviewing the petition for accuracy, examining the debtor, challenging creditor claims, and avoiding financial shenanigans. This course will lay out the role of the trustee in ethical terms by introducing a methodology for approaching a case: analyze the facts, evaluate relevant considerations, look at the legal or moral obligations, consider relations and ideals, determine consequences, construct alternative responses, and finally, decide on a course of action. The course will take you through the methodology and illustrate how it works through hypotheticals.
