Description Find out more about the trending term reinventor, and how being in the know could be a boon to your career, business or your very own self! Contributors Deian McBryde My name is Deian (pronounced DEE-in) from Albuquerque, New Mexico, known for our green and red chili sauces, balloon fiesta, and spectacular views from atop the nearby Sandia Mountains. I became an attorney later in life, following a career in business and the arts, including as a performer and event producer, yoga studio owner, and organizational change management consultant, and customer training team supervisor for Apple. If I have any confidence in court, blame years working nightclubs and lounges from New York and Paris to Sydney. If I have any fancy courtroom moves, remember that I am the only licensed attorney in the state of New Mexico who once had backup dancers. I currently practice family law with a focus on divorces, custody, and settlement facilitation. I take a collaborative approach with highly-engaged clients. My motto is, “do for my clients what they would do for themselves if they knew what I knew.” I am very active in the ABA’s Solo, Small Firm and General Practice (GPSolo) Division, and I’m on the Board of NM State Bar’s Solo & Small Firm Section, the NM YLD, and a member of the NM Committee on Diversity in the Legal Profession. I am passionate about career reinvention and opportunities for older “young” lawyers, and I created a scholarship at the University of New Mexico for students who start law school after years of work or homemaking. I am genuinely interested in legal education, and I advocate for a return to more experiential learning and apprenticeships, with more opportunities for career reinvention in the legal community.
