This session introduces relationship-based, child-centered interactions to support children's development and reduce power struggles. Participants will engage with concepts of shared control, limit setting, and perspective taking. Practice activities will allow for participants to develop their comprehension of the content and apply it to their everyday experiences with children.

Learning Objectives - Participants will be able to:

  1. Recognize the social-emotional development in power struggles and center independence, autonomy, agency.
  2. Implement preventative strategies for minimizing the occurrence of power struggles thought the environment and daily routine.
  3. Implement responsive strategies to support learning and development in power struggles.

Content Level: Beginning level courses introduce learners to a content area; include information about a condition, treatment method, or issue; and involve learning and comprehending content.

SCECHs: This training offers State Continuing Education Clock Hours (SCECHs) for those with educator certification in Michigan. To receive SCECHs, you will need to provide your PIC and MiRegistry numbers when you created your MI-AIMH RELATE User Account. If you did not add those items you can go back to add those items or email to have those added. In order to receive SCECHs, individuals must also have a MiRegistry account.
