Challenges to Race in Higher Education Admissions: Understanding the Issues before the SCOTUS and Institutional Readiness

NADOHE Home Link
SUMMARY

This series will address key issues associated with the U.S. Supreme Court’s upcoming consideration of the SFFA v. Harvard and SFFA v. UNC cases, in which higher education’s ability to continue to consider race in admissions has been challenged.

Part One of this series will set the stage regarding the issues before the court. It will offer a primer on key concepts, basic legal principles, and prevalent myths regarding the consideration of race and ethnicity in admissions that advances the educational benefits of diversity.

Part Two of this series will address institutional readiness strategies associated with possible outcomes of the SFFA cases, with a particular focus beyond admissions—addressing the broad, institutional efforts that can and should be pursued in coming months regarding institutional DEI aims.
