Course Description
Learn how University of Texas Science Center (UTHealth Houston), one of the nation’s most comprehensive academic health centers, led their Procure-to-Pay transformation with Coupa. Eric Williams, AVP, Supply Chain at UTHealth Houston, will share his firsthand experience on the university’s journey, including challenges, decision-making process, lessons learned and success metrics.

UTHealth Houston
Mr. Williams has over (25) years of supply chain management experience. He started his career in the mining sector and has worked extensively across Alaska, Chile, and Argentina. Mr. Williams then transitioned to biomedical research, healthcare, and higher education and has been with University of Texas institutions the last (17) years. Mr. Williams currently leads Supply Chain Management efforts at both UTHealth Houston and UT Physicians located in Houston, Texas.

Mr. Williams has led collaborative and transformational efforts between research, clinical, and administrative professionals to solve complex institutional challenges with innovation and determination to drive successful outcomes. Some of his accomplishments include management of strategic sourcing events which have resulted in over $200M in cost savings. He was the visionary in creating and implementing the “Four Cornerstones of Success” and “ValueChain” source to pay strategies. Mr. Williams has unique research and healthcare business knowledge and experiences that span from the “bench to the bedside”.

Mr. Williams is a graduate of U.C.L.A, holds a M.S. in Clinical Research Administration, and served as a U.S. Peace Corps volunteer in the Dominican Republic and Argentina. Mr. Williams is a Certified Purchasing Manager (C.P.M.) from the Institute for Supply Chain Management. He enjoys the outdoors and lives in Houston with his wife, two children, and dogs.

Mike Maxwell
Mike Maxwell has over 20 years’ experience working with higher education and K-12 organizations on procurement, analytics, and cybersecurity software solutions. Mike is currently the Vice President of State and Local Government & Education at Coupa Software. Prior to Coupa, Mike led the higher education organization at Databricks, a platform for artificial intelligence solutions. Mike has also led national sales and service organizations serving the education segment at Salesforce.com, Tableau, and Symantec. In addition to private sector work, Mike has worked in the public sector at the U.S. Veterans Administration and the United States Senate. Mike has a passion for family, skiing, and mountain biking, and University of Utah football (Go Utes!!). He lives with his wife, a university professor, and teenage son in suburban Salt Lake City.

Adam Magalei is a Source-to-Pay technology expert who has helped numerous companies assess, purchase and deploy procurement and supply chain technologies. A 20-year veteran in the procurement space, Adam has led teams as a Source-to-Pay practitioner, a software development product manager, and a consultant specializing in procurement transformation for the Public Sector, Manufacturing, and Mining & Natural Resources industries.
Adam is a Director at Optis Consulting, serving Fortune-level and high-growth clients across North America in their pursuit of Source-to-Pay excellence. Adam is an alumnus of the University of Utah and resides in Highland, Utah.
