Course: Ethical Research Oversight, EROC: Institutional Subscription

The Ethical Research Oversight Course (EROC) is an engaging, interactive online course that equips IRB members and HRPP/IRB staff for their roles through demonstration of the ethical principles and regulatory frameworks that govern their day-to-day work. The course explores fundamental concepts in human subjects protections, including:

  • Historical events and seminal cases in human research ethics
  • The Belmont principles
  • Definition of human subjects research
  • Exempt and expedited research
  • Assessment and minimization of risk
  • Subject selection and recruitment
  • Informed consent
  • Data and safety monitoring
  • Privacy and confidentiality protections
  • IRB meeting dynamics

Throughout the course, learners will observe a simulated IRB’s deliberations as they review two studies (one biomedical and one behavioral) and demonstrate how key ethical principles are applied in the IRB protocol review process.

EROC has been recognized with a Silver award in the Health and Fitness category of the Fall 2018 Omni Awards! Learn more.
