Contributors

  • Tara Murray Grove

Tara’s career spans special and academic libraries and she has called SLA her professional home throughout. She previously served on the Board of Directors from 2013–2015 and has held various unit leadership roles. SLA has introduced her to new career paths and has helped her to build the skills and relationships necessary to succeed.

Tara first joined SLA as a student and has attended every SLA conference since 2003. Tara has served the broader SLA membership in numerous capacities, including President and Chair of SLA’s Central Pennsylvania Chapter and Social Science Division, respectively.
Tara is the Librarian for Germanic and Slavic Languages and Literatures at Penn State. Prior to that, she was the Director of Information Services and Librarian for the American Philatelic Research Library (APRL), the world’s largest library dedicated to stamp collecting and postal history. Before that, she was the Information Core Director for Penn State’s Population Research Institute, and the Library Director of the Carnegie Library of Homestead, which includes a music hall and athletic club and is one of the three original Pittsburgh-area Carnegie libraries.

Tara grew up in New York state and earned a BA in German Studies from Bard College. She decided to become a librarian while working in the college’s library, and went straight to the University of Pittsburgh for her MLIS. She edits a column on special libraries for the Journal of Library Administration, and has written about special libraries for a variety of outlets, including her blog, DIY Librarian (diylibrarian.org).
