Churches possesses private data about its members, including addresses, email addresses, cell phone numbers and credit card information. Members expect that this information will only be used to conduct appropriate church business.But those expectations may differ from reality. For example,
- Can a church member receive every member's email address to mount a campaign against the pastor?
- Can the church sell its email addresses to a church member who operates a business?
- Can an unofficial group distribute church leaders personal information in an effort to influence the leaders?
