Dead Ends, Brick Walls and Other Euphemisms - 220336

We’ve all been there: moving right along on an examination when . . . Bam . . . it disappears. Sometimes it is just a speed bump, sometimes it is a black hole. What to do when you don’t know what to do next. The workshop will explore various options and resources to get your title examination back on track.

Presenter: Doug Dewing
After earning an undergraduate degree from Washington and Lee University and a law degree from the Washington University School of Law in St. Louis, Mr. Dewing began practicing with the Norfolk firm of Kellam Pickrell & Lawlor in 1982. He entered the title insurance industry in 1987 with Lawyers Title Insurance Corporation in Norfolk, serving as an underwriting counsel in Norfolk, Fredericksburg and Richmond. He authored A Virginia Title Examiners’ Manual (4th ed. 2017), chapters on title examination and title insurance for Virginia CLE's publication Real Estate Transactions in Virginia, and articles on many topics involving title to real property. Mr. Dewing has been a member of numerous continuing education panels on real estate title and title insurance topics for various groups including Virginia CLE and VLTA. He is a former Chair of the Real Property Section of the Virginia State Bar. He presently holds the position "consulting examiner" (a title he gave himself in homage to Arthur Conan Doyles' immortal literary character Sherlock Holmes) He still looks in the mirror and asks "What ARE you going to do when you grow up?".
