Description

Language and Socioemotional Development in Early Childhood: The Role of Conversational Turns

This presentation reports and updates an original study examining the relation between the linguistic environment of infants and their socioemotional development between the ages of 18 and 30 months (first published in Developmental Science) and a second follow up study at 72 months (work in progress). Building on this knowledge, it project ideas for translating this stream of research onto public policies, intervention program and social media to influence a paradigm shift in our relation with early childhood.

During this session, participants will:

  • Understand the importance of the linguistic environment for infant development.
  • Understand the connection between conversational turns and socioemotional development in early childhood.
  • Project the implications for early intervention in language and socioemotional development.
