Ready Steady Think: Executive Function Skills

Executive function (EF) skills underpin learning, language processing, and social cognition. For children with hearing loss, EF skills play a key role in reaching positive outcomes and are known to be at risk for this population. Preschool years are a key time to develop these skills through play based activities.

During this session, participants will:

  • Describe executive function skills.
  • Identify barriers to development of executive function in children with hearing loss.
  • Use new ideas to strengthen the development of executive function in everyday activities.

    Danielle is a Certified Practising Speech Pathologist and Certified Listening and Spoken Language Specialist, an experienced mentor and clinician. Danielle joined The Shepherd Centre in 2007 and is leading the team in growth and development.

  • Joanna Mcadam BA, MSLP, LSLS Cert AVT, CPSP

    Leads a team of listening and language professionals and is a clinical innovator in the areas of access to sound and executive function in children with hearing loss.

  • Aleisha Davis, PhD, LSLS Cert.AVT, CPSP

    Aleisha is the Chief Clinical Officer at The Shepherd Centre leading the team of LSLSs, Paediatric Audiologists, Child and Family Counsellors, Educators and Clinical Researchers. Aleisha is a Certified Listening and Spoken Language Specialist.

  • Jen Whiteway, LSLS Cert. AVT, MSLP, BLS

    Jen is a Listening and Spoken Language Specialist working with families, in individual and group settings. She mentors aspiring LSLSs and has a keen interest in outcomes and research.
