Behavioral Health & Social Determinant Connections

Speaker:
Marcella Wilson, PhD

The role of behavioral health in social determinant assessment and treatment focuses on a new understanding of poverty as an environmentally based condition that is directly linked to increased rates of behavioral health conditions. Dr. Wilson lays out the direct relationship and a demonstrated, evidence based approach that offers easy assessment of social determinants and data collection within billable pathways in behavioral health settings. This approach can also be integrated in substance abuse treatment and primary care settings.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Identify the direct connection between social determinant of health exposures and physical and behavioral outcomes.
  • Review a new framework for understanding poverty as an environmental condition and not a character flaw.
  • Apply this knowledge and framework to their case management practice.
