Now more than ever a greater understanding of the importance of DE&I within the case management and disability management community is essential to workforce development and caring for our clients. A focus on equity is an integral part of the ethical practice of case management and disability management which respects, values, celebrates, and lifts up the unique attributes of our professional community & clients. According to Merriam-Webster, the definition of equity is “justice according to natural law or right, specifically freedom, from bias or favoritism.” Within case management and disability management, a focus on equity for our clients includes consideration of existing processes and systems to ensure fair access to resources and care. The Quadruple Aim reflects equity as it encompasses reduced costs with a focus on an improved client experience which leads to healthier populations and the improvement of work/life balance of healthcare providers.

By focusing on equity, case managers and disability management specialists can better address their clients’ needs and the impact of social determinants of health on their overall care. In other words, not all clients have equal access to the resources which lead to the best outcomes. Through an equity lens, the case manager and disability management specialist are able to better advocate for the needs of their clients. Additionally, depending on the practice setting, case managers and disability management specialists may not have the same access to tools and resources to improve client care and outcomes.

This session includes a panel which focuses on the equity in DE&I to better support and advocate for the needs of our clients and for those who provide case management & disability management services.
