Description:

Case managers and disability management specialists play a critical role in promoting the integration of behavioral health into various healthcare settings and facilitating holistic and patient-centered care for individuals with behavioral health needs. The role of a case manager or disability management specialist in integrating behavioral health into a clinical, workers' compensation, community, or crisis setting is multifaceted, and varies depending on the specific context and scope of practice. The goal of integrating behavioral health into case and disability management interventions in each of these settings is to ensure care of the whole person while utilizing health promotion resources (i.e. wellness programs, EAP, other initiatives to reduce chronic disease risk factors) reducing the stigma surrounding mental health issues. During this session, subject matter experts representing these settings will provide strategies and resources to assist the case manager and disability management specialist in integrating behavioral health into their practice in the settings where services are provided.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand the rationale for integrating behavioral health into your overall practice
  • Identify specific strategies to be utilized in different practice settings
  • Describe resources within your practice area for recommendations and referrals
