Who's the Victim: Management of TBI after an MVA

ETHICS ALERT!

Speaker:

Ellen Mitchell, MA, RN, CCM

Description:

Addressing the critical and complex issues of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), particularly in the aftermath of motor vehicle accidents (MVAs) can be challenging for case managers. TBI is a leading cause of mortality and long-term disability, with the United States recording approximately 69,473 TBI-related deaths in 2021, translating to around 190 deaths each day. This webinar adopts a case study approach, aiming to equip case managers with essential knowledge and skills in facilitating care and advocating for patients after a TBI. This comprehensive session is designed to provide a deep understanding of TBI management, emphasizing the importance of tailored care, ethical decision making and the significant impact of effective case management in these challenging scenarios.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Define the role of the case manager in TBI
  • Identify and weigh the difference in applications for ethical constructs in individual victims
  • Relate ethical constructs to evidence-based planning for transitions of care in TBI
  • Recognize the challenges in the provision of ethical care for an undocumented person.
