Join Georgia Angell, Ebru Demirel, and Maria Andrea Rodriguez for an interactive discussion on the challenges they have faced and overcome, the strengths female leaders bring to the C Suite and the board room, and how we can empower women for the future. IAM's Julia O'Connor will moderate this important discussion with these trailblazers.

  • Georgia Angell

    Over 40 Years of Industry Experience
    Georgia began her career in 1980 and has held numerous leadership positions with some of the industry’s leading household goods moving agencies and forwarding companies. Georgia served as Chairperson of the International Association of Movers (IAM) Executive Committee, was the first woman elected to the organization’s chairmanship and she continues to contribute to numerous programs advocating improvements for the industry. Georgia was inducted into the IAM Hall of Honor in 2020.
    Her experience includes directing all aspects of the operations, finances, technology and business planning within the Domestic and International commercial household goods and government personnel property programs. She focuses on organizational assessments, operational processes, government contracts, regulation compliance, technology solutions and integration, talent administration, financial management and strategic business expansion.

    Georgia has contributed to the development of IAM Learning, the association’s initiatives to enhance communications with members. IAM Technology Partnership, The Shipper’s Guide, the Code of Ethics, the expansion of the Association Member’s Management Board, the Receivable Protection Plan and the Hall of Honor. She has hosted many Learning Labs on How To Network Like A Pro.

  • Ebru Demirel

    Ebru is president and partner of her family company Asya International Movers based in Turkey, where she has been working for the last twenty-six years. She has extensive experience in international moving and relocation services. While working at Asya she started Bedel Mobility Solutions in 1996 to offer immigration and relocation services for their clients in Turkey and she has been the CEO of Bedel since then. She is managing Asya together with her 2 sisters and father who is the founder of the company.

    Ebru has been serving at the board of FIDI since 2013 and she became the president of the association in April 2019 during the annual conference held in Amsterdam. Ebru also takes different roles at the ICEFAT (International Fine art Movers Association). She served as a member of standards committee for helping in developing standards for fine art movers and currently she is member of membership committee of ICEFAT. Ebru is at the board of Trustee of a nonprofit association (Sema Yazar Genclik Vakfi) for supporting young and talented people with college scholarship. She lives in Istanbul, is interested in long distance running (marathons and ultra-trails).

  • Maria Andrea Rodriguez

    Maria is the second generation of her family to lead their business for ABC Cargo Logistics in Bogota, Colombia. Educated in the U.S. as an industrial and systems engineer with a master's in international business. Maria has a passion for travel, cooking and experiencing different cultures. She started in the industry 10 years ago, and since then has served on several boards. She is the president of the AFW scholarship fund and member of the selection committee for the Hall of Honor for IAM, and she acted as vice-chair for the IAM YPs for two terms. Maria heads up the Global Mobility and logistic divisions at ABC. With experience in the tech industry also, Maria is pioneering technological innovations and advances within her organization to create value and efficiency for her agent partner network and corporate clients.

  • Julia O'Connor

    Julia serves as the Vice President of Membership & Communications at IAM, bringing over two decades of experience in association management. She is instrumental in engaging both existing and prospective members, communicating the benefits of membership, and spearheading diverse marketing endeavors to promote the association's growth and member engagement.

    She plays an active role in several IAM committees, including the Core Members' Management Board, IAM-YP Management Board, and the IAM Leadership Alliance Council. Additionally, Julia provides administrative support to the International Shippers Association (ISA). Her expertise also extends to her position as the Vice-Chair of the Membership Professional Advisory Council with the American Society for Association Executives (ASAE).

    Julia earned her BA in Psychology from Pepperdine University and is currently advancing her education with a master's in Global Marketing at the University of Maryland Global Campus. Outside of her professional life, Julia is passionate about triathlons, enjoys exploring wine tastings, and values time with her family, often found cheering on her children at their various sports events.
