Training Materials

This is it! all the info that will answer all your questions!

Or mostly.

Please review all these documents VERY carefully!

You really need to know and understand them in order to make the most of your experience.
  • Daily Schedule & Location Information: Where to go when.
  • The Fact Pattern: Walkinshaw: This is the case that the training is based upon. It has names of people and places that may seem unfamiliar to you; it is important to be very comfortable with the information. This will allow you to concentrate on the "how" of delivery, rather than the "what" of the case details.
  • Training Instructions and Performance Order: This is a companion piece to the fact pattern, which lays out who goes when and what areas of the law to concentrate on.
  • T# Assignments: This document tells you which "side" you have been assigned to, as well as will make the instructions come alive with specifics of what arguments you will be making.
  • Legal Submissions Exercise: This exercise always causes some confusion. Think of it as preparing a motion for the judge and practicing organizing your thoughts. It is designed to help you argue a point more "on the fly" than you would if you had a full written brief. (This is your homework at the end of the first day and delivered at the start of the second.)
The more preparation you put into the NATP, the more you will get out of it. Please don't wait until the last minute to read the materials and prepare.

Sensitivity Warning! The fact pattern is based on a real case that was tried (by one of our trainers!) in the international courts after the war in the former Yugoslavia. It has been changed a little bit, but is still striking and even a little bit disturbing as it deals with war and genocide.
