    Webinar Description:
    Going into 2020, transportation companies had varying degrees of working from home policies. When COVID-19 hit the nation, many companies across the industry quickly adapted to have employees to work from home full-time. Over the past few months there have been many success stories as well as lessons learned from bumps along the way. This webinar will share perspectives from IT and HR, as well as personal stories of employees who are new to this or have been working from home for decades.

    Learning Objectives:

    • Understand important aspects of IT infrastructure that assist in companies successfully allowing employees to work from home.
    • Describe how a company’s Human Resources team can support company culture and employees while working from home. 
    • Learn tips and tricks to working from home from the personal experience of others.

    • Katrina Haney, Director of Human Resources | DKS Associates

      Katrina Haney has been with DKS Associates, a transportation engineering and planning firm headquartered in Portland, Oregon, since May 2015. She is currently the Director of Human Resources, responsible for leading the HR function for 130 employees across seven locations. She has a psychology degree from Alaska Pacific University and has 20 years of direct experience in all aspects of HR in various industries, 11 of those years being in architecture/engineering. Katrina is a certified Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR), a Certified Professional Coach (CPC), a member of the National Society of Human Resources (SHRM), a member and the Mentorship Committee Chair of the Portland Human Resources Management Association (PHRMA), and an officer of the Northwest Chapter of the ESOP Association.

    • Jim Mallett, M.A.Sc., P.Eng., PTOE, President and CEO | Paradigm Transportation Solutions Limited

      Jim has over 30 years of private consulting experience. He was one of the founding partners of Paradigm Transportation Solutions Limited, a work-from-home Transportation Engineering Consulting firm that began operations in 1998. Paradigm is a unique consulting practice offering a full range transportation planning and traffic engineering services to public and private sector clients across southern Ontario. For over 20 years, they have helped solve real-world transportation problems using their skills and expertise in community transportation planning, active and sustainable transportation, traffic operations and safety analysis, transportation impact assessment, parking planning, environmental assessments, transportation data management and expert testimony. Since 1998, Paradigm has grown from three founding partners to a firm of 23 staff and increased its annual business 10-fold. The firm has completed more than 4,500 consulting assignments. As it approaches 25 years in business, Paradigm sees the value in the work-from-home approach and has built its future strategic plans around it.

    • Skip Thomas, Vice President, Information Technologies | VHB

      Skip brings more than two decades of experience to his role as VHB’s Vice President of Information Technologies. Combining business savvy with a broad understanding of the technical landscape, Skip has helped to steer VHB towards greater technological integration that supports both workflow improvements and stronger client deliverables. Skip has built a world-class IT team that serves 1,500 people in 30 offices across 12 states. He has also played a critical role in advancing cyber-security initiatives, protecting the firm’s digital assets from ever-changing threats. As the Covid-19 pandemic rapidly engulfed the country, Skip and his team seamlessly shifted the entire company to a remote work environment, while also supporting best-in-class virtual engagement with clients. In just four years at VHB, Skip has become a valued and trusted colleague, known for his measured, thoughtful approach to problem-solving and strong relationships at all levels of the firm.

    • Hardik Shah, P.E., PTOE, MSCE, National Practice Director / Traffic Group Leader | American Structurepoint, Inc.

      Hardik is the Traffic Group Leader for American Structurepoint, Inc. and has 15 years of professional experience in the transportation industry. He has provided on a wide range of transportation services including transportation planning, traffic impact and safety studies, operations analysis, traffic simulation and modeling, traffic signals, highway lighting and roadway design. Hardik was a research assistant for two years in the area of transportation planning and infrastructure finance at Purdue University. He was the recipient of the ITE Young Professional Scholarship Award given by the Transportation Consultants Council in 2010 and has been actively involved with ITE for the past 15 years, serving in several capacities at local and national levels. He is also a recipient of ENR Midwest’s 2019 top 20 under 40 young professionals in the industry.
