Description

This training has been developed by: WONDERbabies : Ways Of Nurturing Development through Enhancing Relationships for medically fragile and developmentally challenged babies and their families. The FIRST Steps for BABIES© is a two-day foundational training which provides both a framework to learn about the foundations of newborn and young infant development through The FIRST Steps for BABIES© approach. This training will include an introduction to the BABIES Adaptive Behavior Inventory. Additionally, participants will learn about the progression of the caregiver-infant relationship as the infant develops using the PreSTEPS Model®. This training will cover brain development, regulation and co-regulation, relationships, reflective stance perspective and will include video case examples. This training will include an introduction to the Babies Adaptive Behavior Inventory (covered more on Day 3) and will cover how to use the Caregiver Guide.

Please note, a third virtual training day is being planned for the Winter of 2022-2023. It is expected that those who attend this training, will do their best to attend the third day. The third training will go more in depth on the: Babies Adaptive Behavior Inventory (BABI). Additional information can be found here: https://www.wonderbabies.org/babi-training/

This training is for 0-3 IMH Home Visitors who would like additional training focused on newborns and young infants who are medically fragile. HURRY! Attendance is limited to 20-25 people!

  • Joy V. Browne, Ph.D., PCNS, IMH-E ®

    Dr. Browne is a Clinical Professor of Pediatrics and Psychiatry at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, has faculty positions at the University of South Florida and the University of New Mexico Department of Psychiatry. She holds dual licensure as a Pediatric Psychologist and a Clinical Nurse Specialist and is endorsed as an Infant Mental Health Mentor. Dr. Browne is a member of the Zero to Three Academy of Fellows. Additionally, she was the founding President of the Colorado Association for Infant Mental Health, past President of the New Mexico Association for Infant Mental Health and is on the Board of Directors for the Alliance for the Association for Infant Mental Health. Dr. Browne is the founder and director of WONDERbabies, which encompasses several programs including the Colorado Newborn Individualized Developmental Care and Assessment Program (NIDCAP), the Family Infant Relationship Support Training (FIRST) program, the BABIES and PreSTEPS program and the Fragile Infant Feeding Institute (FIFI). Her area of expertise is in neurobehavioral assessment and intervention with high-risk infants and their families, as well as systems change toward developmentally supportive and family centered care in both hospital and community settings. Dr. Browne provides training and consultation nationally and internationally.

  • Petora Manetto-Spratt, PT, DPT, PCS, IMH-E®

    Petora is a licensed physical therapist and board certified pediatric specialist. She also has her IMH-E (II). She is the owner of Precious Steps Pediatric Therapy in the Denver Metro area, and has been practicing for over 36 years. She has specialized in early intervention (EI) for the past 30 years, working on various transdisciplinary teams specializing in premature and medically fragile infants discharged from the NICU. Tora has worked in the NICU setting, pediatric acute care, out patient pediatrics, infant and preschool programs, and home health. She is trained in the BABIES/ PreSTEPS model, and has assisted with training other EI providers in this model. She has presented extensively on the subject over the past 7 years, including the APTA Section on Pediatrics Annual Conference (SoPAC) 2016, Colorado APTA Fall Symposium, 2017 and Academy of Pediatric Physical Therapy Annual Conference (APPTAC), 2017. She also co-authored Incorporating Infant Mental Health into Early Intervention for Infants and Families Discharged from the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, NAINR Dec. 2016.Petora earned her Doctor of Physical therapy in Pediatric Science from Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions, and post-baccalaureate certificate in Physical Therapy from Hahnemann Medical College and Hospital.

  • Emily McNeil, LPC, BC-DMT, CIMI, EMDR-tr, IMH-E ®

    Emily is the owner of The Mariposa Center for Infant, Child, and Family Enrichment in Denver, CO. She is an early childhood and family therapist, with specialties in infant mental health, particularly with infants and families who have been discharged from the NICU; maternal pre- and peri-natal mental health; trauma, including secondary trauma; adoption/foster care; and developmental delay. Emily practices both in The Mariposa Center’s clinic and via home-based services through Early Intervention. Emily holds a Master of Arts degree in Somatic Counseling Psychology with a concentration in Dance/Movement Therapy from Naropa University. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Board Certified Dance/Movement Therapist, Certified Infant Massage Instructor, Endorsed as an Infant Mental Health Clinical Mentor, and holds advanced training in EMDR and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Emily co-founded the Adams County NICU Task Force and Team in order to improve the support and therapeutic services premature and medically fragile babies and their families receive post-discharge from the NICU. Emily is a Master Trainer for COAIMH’s Foundations for Infant Mental Health training.Emily is involved in Special Kids, Special Care’s efforts to improve post-discharge services to premature and medically fragile infants. She is the chair of the mental health committee for the NICU Consortium Partnership Leadership Council. She currently is a BABIES Model faculty member to bring the BABIES and PreSTEPS Models of developmental care for premature and medically fragile infants and their families to more organizations working with infants and families across the country.
