Meeting the goals of the UN Paris Agreement requires reductions in carbon emissions of at least 50% by 2030. Embodied carbon - the emissions from the production and construction of buildings accounts for over 10% of global emissions. Embodied carbon will be the majority of all emissions from new buildings over the next 10 years - which is why structural engineers have an important and immediate role to play in meeting climate change targets.
