The presentation will delve into material and detailing selection to control cracking in masonry buildings. Topics will include rules of thumb for locating joints in load bearing masonry walls versus those in veneer and non-load bearing walls. Material selection to control cracking and shrinkage cracking mitigation will be discussed. The session will include a 10 to 15 minute interactive exercise in improving example building plans and elevations to reduce cracking and enhance overall structural performance.
