Description
As research of steel lateral-resisting systems has evolved,
eccentrically braced frames (EBFs) have emerged as a preferred economical
solution to more traditional alternatives. It is essentially a hybrid,
combining the stiffness of concentrically braced frames with the ductility and
energy dissipation capacity of a moment frame. The design is based on
applicable provisions of the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC)
Seismic Provisions for Structural Steel Buildings (AISC 341) and Prequalified
Connections for Special and Intermediate Steel Moment Frames for Seismic
Applications (AISC 358). This presentation will summarize current design
provisions and focus on a recently published design example in Volume 4 of the
2015 SEAOC Structural/Seismic Design Manual.
- Course will award 1.5 hours of continuing education
- This course is Diamond Review approved in 49 states. New York does not accept hours from recordings.
