Description
Google's Bay View Campus, located in Bay Area near Mountain View, is the new flagship building for Google. Campus includes three discrete buildings and it is designated for general office use.
It includes a highly complex and unique roof structure which provides the architectural form of the building. The roof follows a dome like shape split with clerestories to provide natural light. Roof is supported by columns that are up to 130 ft tall at a grid of 124 feet by 124 feet.
Construction of this roof required many innovative design and construction techniques and a highly collaborative approach between design and construction teams. Google Bay View Roof was mostly constructed at the ground level and then lifted in place using strand jacks. Additionally, design of the roof followed performance based seismic design principles as the structural systems used were outside of the prescribed lateral systems in the building.
The presentation will discuss the design and construction phases of Google Bay View Project.
