Description
Exploration of the design decisions and unique challenges presented at the Epstein Family Amphitheater - which serves as the new gateway to the University of California, San Diego campus. The state-of-the-art outdoor entertainment venue hosts a wide variety of events for the university's nationally ranked theater, dance, visual arts and music programs with a capacity of 2,850 divided between two bowl seating sections and a large steeply sloped law. The presentation focuses on the main structural components of the steel diagrid canopy shell and concrete back-of-house structure, while touching on the other site elements composed of an open-air kiosk structure and subterranean restroom facilities - each with their own unique geometry and challenges.
