As many states and local jurisdictions go to the 2015 or 2018 International Building Code (IBC), the structural engineer can no longer rely on the existing building provisions included in Chapter 34 of the IBC. This two-part series will go through the structural provisions that are included in the 2018 IEBC. Part 1 addresses the specific provisions for the prescriptive and performance compliance methods. It will clarify how the code is laid out and provides specific guidelines for how to use the book. Requirements for repairs, alterations, additions, moved structures and historic structures will be addressed.
