Description

This webinar will provide architects and engineers with a general overview of key factors to consider when coordinating blast with gravity, wind, and seismic design requirements for facades. Common conflicts that arise in multi-hazard design projects and recommendations for efficient and effective details are also discussed. “Typical approaches” for designing envelope components including the use of advanced tools will be illustrated, and an effective process for specifying, reviewing, and approving delegated design items will be discussed.

Contributors

  • Carrie Davis, P.E., LEED Green Assoc.

Carrie Davis, P.E., has 9 years of experience as a structural engineer with a focus in the security and protection field. Ms. Davis joined Protection Engineering Consultants in June of 2008. At PEC, she regularly manages and performs blast resistant analysis, design, and testing for a variety of projects. Her recent physical security and blast resistant work includes numerous buildings nationwide for conformance with the Physical Security Design Manuals for VA Facilities, DoD requirements in the UFC 4-010-01, and ISC physical security criteria in The Risk Management Process for Federal (GSA) Facilities. In addition, Ms. Davis has managed and led research projects in the field of blast resistant façade design on topics such as development of a web-based design tool for curtainwalls subjected to blast loads, assessment of high strength glass supported by commercial mullions systems, lightweight protective facade panels, triple pane IGUs, and polymer reinforced masonry walls exposed to blast loads. Carrie earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Architectural Engineering and a Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. Her research and thesis at UT Austin focused on the development of blast resistant design and detailing guidelines for reinforced concrete bridge columns.
